CLAIM:

Ye is mentally ill

False

Dating back to 2016, billionaire artist and fashion designer Ye has been consistently labeled as “mentally ill” or “bipolar” in mainstream media. After news broke of a dinner between the humanitarian, commentator Nick Fuentes, and ex-President Donald Trump, Trump took to his proprietary platform Truth Social to provide clarity about the meeting, but, in the process, echoing the media trope about Ye, calling him “seriously troubled.”

Ye’s account of his mental health is a far different one. In October, Ye released text messages from his former trainer Harley Pasternak which revealed he was threatened with the possibility of his kids being taken away, nearly medicated against his will, and verbally abused by the Hollywood trainer. In the messages, Pasternak threatened to “send Ye back to zombieland” and institutionalize him if he did not comply with his demands. Ye took to Twitter to reveal the messages, saying that he was “mentally misdiagnosed and nearly drugged out of his mind to make him a manageable celebrity.”

In December, Ye’s friend Nick Fuentes cleared up any doubt over mental illness concerns with Alex Jones of InfoWars, assuring the host that he is completely sane. Ye himself echoed this sentiment later in the month, once again denying claims of bipolarity, but suggesting that perhaps he is “slightly autistic like Rain Man.” Ye is certainly not mentally ill, but he’s also not completely normal–his life and career works are those of an eccentric genius who is not always immediately understood. Instead of jumping to call him “crazy” or “mentally ill,” media pundits should see Ye’s art as many Americans do–a complex, but beautiful gift from God.
